College Level Exam Program (CLEP)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests that assess college-level knowledge in several subject areas. Many colleges grant credit to students who meet their minimum qualifying score. The tests are useful for students who have obtained knowledge outside the classroom, such as through independent study, job experience, or cultural interaction. CLEP also offers international and home-schooled students the opportunity to demonstrate their proficiency in subject areas and bypass undergraduate coursework.

How to Register for/Purchase a CLEP Exam

  1. Visit the CLEP website at clep.collegeboard.org to create an account and purchase your test. Your 'Registration Ticket" is your proof of purchase, and is good for 6 months from purchase date. Bring a copy of this ticket to your test appointment. College Board also offers study material to purchase for each test.
*Active duty members and veterans may have test purchase costs waived, see the website for information.
