Mission Statement

The mission of Butte College Business Education Department is to prepare students to be successful when entering the world of business and to continue in lifelong education. We value our students’ success and place respect, accountability, and excellence as our core values.

Vision statements specific to each of the Department of Business Education Programs are as follows:
• The Accounting Program believes “Accounting is the Answer” and focuses on preparing students to become detail-oriented and able to understand and prepare accurate financial data.
• The General Business Program prepares students to be successful as they enter and pursue careers in business fields such as retail management, small business management, marketing, sales and advertising, in both profit and non-profit organizations, operating in today’s global environment.
• The Economics Program provides students with intellectual and analytical tools necessary to gain an understanding of economic theory and policy as a way to address issues facing our society.
• The Real Estate Program prepares students to take the California Real Estate Sales and Brokers exams and successfully list, sell and invest in real property.

Program Description

The Department of Business Education includes 4 programs/disciplines: Accounting, Economics, General Business- Marketing, Management and Small Business Management (SBM), and Real Estate. 1 Yes Business Education -- All Facilities Repair/remodel the Business Education Building’s restrooms. 11-000-513-1-059900 56220 $40,000.00 $0.00 The Business Education restroom facilities (especially the women's bathroom) are deplorable, embarrassing and unsanitary. They've been patched and adapted in the past twenty-five years, but they need an overhaul (including new floor tile). Please!! This has been of concern to Business Education faculty for many years and has been in prior unit plans.
2 Yes Business Education -- All Equipment Purchase new computers for 5 classrooms and expand memory on 7 faculty and 2 office computers 11-000-513-1-059900 56411 $19,000.00 $0.00 We must maintain our technology in our fully-mediated classrooms -- and at our faculty and staff work stations. At present, most faculty’s computers are running the bare minimum requirements of memory (RAM) for Windows 7. Computers in BE classrooms are slow, “blue screen of death” with not enough memory. They’re so slow, they are slowing down teachers’ presentations and limiting instruction. There are also problems/limitations with DVD viewing related to existing computers. Quality instruction and student support require reliable, up-to-date technology.
4 Yes Business Education -- all Operating Expenses Provide travel funds for professional development. 11-000-513-1-059900 55200 $0.00 $10,000.00 It's essential that Business Education faculty remain up-to-date in their fields. Certain of the Business Education disciplines (e.g., Accounting and Real Estate) require continuing education to fulfill ongoing professional licensing requirements. In addition, there are discipline-specific and industry-specific (e.g., Western Association of Food Chain (WAFC) meetings that faculty should attend.
    4 Yes Business Education -- All Operating Expenses Purchase/Upgrade necessary software. 11-000-513-1-059900 54311 $0.00 $5,000.00
5 Yes Business Education -- All Operating Expenses Reinstate prior student assistant funds. 11-000-513-1-059900 52468 $0.00 $2,500.00 Business Education student assistants are integral to the effective operation of the department. Among other functions, they provide faculty support (including grading in homework-intensive Accounting and Economics classes), facilitate the desk/library copy ordering process, assist with the analysis of SLO-related assessments and help facilitate student completion of certificates and degrees.
6 Yes Business Education -- All Facilities Reconfigure BE 111. 11-000-513-1-059900 56220 $5,000.00 $0.00 Reconfiguring BE 111 would provide instructors with more board space and better allow them interact to interact with students.
7 Yes Business Education -- All Operating Expenses Update/Duplicate new brochures and Business Education program guide. 11-000-513-1-059900 54200 $5,000.00 $0.00
8 Yes Business Education -- All Personnel Hire two new full-time faculty members: Accounting and General Business/Real Estate 11-000-513-1-059900 51100 $0.00 $193,912.00 Additional full-time faculty members are needed to ensure staffing, allow for meeting current student demand and grow/enhance the ACCT, BUS and RLS programs.
9 Yes Business Education -- All Operating Expenses Provide financial support for Enactus (SIFE) team members to attend in-state competition 11-000-513-1-059900 55200 $0.00 $5,000.00 The Butte College Enactus (formerly SIFE) team has acquitted itself well (and reflected positively on Butte College) in regional , national and international competitions during the past 25 years. Financial support is needed to ensure that students (and their advisor) may travel to the in-state regional competitions.
