We offer four levels of ESL, beginning with Life Skills (ESL 310) and progressing through high-intermediate (ESL 313). These courses help prepare students for enrollment in general education and career and technical programs at Butte College. In addition, we currently offer a workforce class (ESL 352A) taught in connection with Child Development courses offered in Spanish.
ESL Prep Night
During ESL Prep Nights, students receive college application, assessment, and enrollment assistance. Two ESL Prep Nights are held each semester at the Chico Center, 2320 Forest Avenue in Chico, usually once during the week before school starts and again during the first week of classes. Please check the Butte College Calendar of Events for dates, or call the department secretary at 893-7454.
Our Conversation Café/digital literacy is a free, one-hour informal session open to all students who want to practice their skills on an iPad in a fun and relaxing environment. The Digital Café is held one evening a week at the Chico Center. Everyone is welcome!
Students who successfully complete two semesters of ESL classes, including ESL 313, will receive a certificate of competency in ESL. We celebrate this achievement during our Spring ESL Ceremony in May.
