Students must be able to read, write and speak English at a level necessary to actively pursue a full-time academic program. English proficiency can be demonstrated by either taking a language proficiency test or by transferring from our language program. Language proficiency tests only apply if English is not your primary language.

LANGUAGE PROGRAM FOR CONDITIONAL ADMISSION
American Language & Cultural Institute (ALCI) Conditional Admission allows you to be admitted to Butte College without having to take the TOEFL or any other standardized language proficiency test listed above. Instead, you will attend The American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) located at California State University, Chico, prior to attending Butte College until you have reached our language proficiency level. ALCI oversees sessions of intensive English language instruction per year to international students of all proficiency levels, from beginning to advanced.
