LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Students must be able to read, write and speak English at a level necessary to actively pursue an academic program. English proficiency can be demonstrated by either taking a language proficiency test, completing the minimum level at a partner language program or by transferring a U.S. college equivalent course.
*Language proficiency documentation only applies if English is not your primary language.*

*CONDITIONAL ADMISSION AND LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY THROUGH A PARTNER LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Our partnership with the American Language & Cultural Institute (ALCI) allows you to be conditionally admitted to Butte College without having to complete a standardized language proficiency test as listed above. Instead, you will attend The American Language and Culture Institute (ALCI) located at California State University, Chico, prior to attending Butte College until you have reached our language proficiency level (level 5). ALCI oversees multiple sessions of intensive English language instruction each year to international students of all proficiency levels, from beginning to advanced. Visit the ALCI homepage to learn more about how to enroll through the Conditional Admissions process.

The professors are so helpful with my language difference. If you want to improve your English, Northern California is a great place to learn. There are many nice people here to speak with and it’s easy to concentrate and learn here.
