The Butte College Art Gallery is pleased to announce The Encaustic Effect, an exhibition of artwork by Chico artist Paula Busch. The exhibit will be on display through November 7 in the Butte College Art Gallery.
Though Paula Busch is an accomplished printmaker, her more recent medium is encaustic, which refers to the process of fusing paint. Her painting process involves heating wax, mixing it with pigment, and applying it to watercolor paper on board. The wax, when dry, produces a lustrous and multilayered textured affect. The themes addressed in Busch's artwork center on the relationship between life and its environment. Her imagery includes the flora and fauna of the natural world. The Encaustic Effect will feature her "Beetle Series," as well as abstract creations she calls her "Pleated Series".
Paula Busch has an extensive exhibition record including a recent one person exhibition, Opposites Attract, at James Snidle Fine Arts, and acceptance in the Chico Arts Center All Media 2012 juried by Philip E. Linhares. Her awards include the Mayoral Award for Contribution to the Arts in Chico, and an Award of Merit in California Works, Sacramento. Busch earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, Berkeley, and her Master of Arts degree from California State University, Chico. Her work has been collected by the Museum of Northern California Art and The Janet Turner Print Museum, among others.
