Rise and dance in solidarity to end violence against women on February 14, 2013! One Billion Rising is a global flash mob event honoring the 15th anniversary of V-Day, a global activist movement started by Eve Ensler to end violence against women and girls. This global initiative will to show the world women’s collective strength, numbers, and solidarity across borders. This Valentine’s Day, V-Day activists across the world will stop what they are doing, walk out, strike, and dance no matter where they are.
To join the movement, like “North State Rising” on Facebook and RSVP. Your RSVP is a pledge to stand up wherever you are and dance at noon on Valentine’s Day 2013. Men are welcome to participate and show their support.
Dance alone or involve your coworkers, family, friends, or classmates. You choose the song you want to dance to and the location. Send in photographic or video evidence to our Facebook page so the world can see Butte County’s participation in One Billion Rising. When we focus our energy on the same cause at the same moment in time we create a revolution in our local and global communities.
Don't have Facebook? That's okay! You can still pledge to rise with us. If you’d like to rise with a group, North State Rising is hosting three spaces for people to gather, be inspired, and dance at noon. To show your solidarity with a group, come to one of the following spaces on February 14:
ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME.
ONE BILLION WOMEN VIOLATED IS AN ATROCITY.
ONE BILLION WOMEN DANCING IS A REVOLUTION!
North State Rising is a collaboration of Catalyst Domestic Violence Services, Chico Peace and Justice Center, Women’s Health Specialists, Butte College Safe Place & Wellness Program, and the Gender and Sexuality Equality Center at CSU, Chico.
