Butte College Offers 17 New Degrees with Guaranteed Transfer to CSU

Butte College Offers 17 New Degrees
with Guaranteed Transfer To CSU

Butte Offers the Most Transfer Degrees to a CSU in the North State

More Classes Offered this Spring Semester Starting Jan 27

Butte College now offers new degrees with guaranteed transfer to California State Universities—the most for any college in the North State. The college now offers 17 Associate in Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and Associate in Science for Transfer (AS-T) degrees.

"Our students can now receive a guarantee to transfer into a CSU, with the ability to complete a bachelor's degree in two more years," said Samia Yaqub, Butte College Vice President for Student Learning and Economic Development. "Students are encouraged to enroll today at or call 530-895-2511. We've also added more classes for Spring Semester which begins January 27."

The AA-T and AS-T degrees offer the classes students need to take at the community college level, so they will only need to take upper division courses once they transfer to a CSU. CSUs that are within a student's residential area (such as CSU Chico) are given priority admission consideration.

The degree with a guarantee only works for California State Universities, and although students are guaranteed admission, some AA-T and AS-T degrees may not be acceptable at particular campuses. If a CSU does not accept a transfer degree, students could still be accepted into that CSU — it just means they will not receive special privileges, and will possibly need to take additional lower division courses.

Students are still eligible to transfer and apply to all CSUs. The degree with a guarantee is not the only way to transfer. Getting the 60 core units, earning a high GPA, and taking coursework for their major prerequisites is still a workable traditional pathway for students transferring into any college system.

For more information, students can visit to find out which AA-T and AS-T degrees are accepted at a particular CSU, make an appointment to see a counselor, or visit the Transfer Counseling Center, located in the Student and Administrative Services building.

Current AA-T approved degrees: Anthropology, Art History, Communication Studies, English, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Studio Arts, and Theatre Arts. Current AS-T approved degrees: Administration of Justice, Business Administration, Computer Science, Early Childhood Education, Mathematics, and Physics.

"Whether your goal is transfer or earning a career degree or certificate, we want to let the public know that we have plenty of classes available for Spring Semester and it's an easy process to get started," said Yaqub. "At Butte College, we can help walk new students through the process of filling out an application and answer questions along the way. Anyone interested in attending Butte College should apply today online or call us at 895-2511."
