The Butte College Art Gallery is hosting a path-breaking event: Kindred Spirits, Artist-Scholar-Teacher Exhibition, March 1-31. This exhibition features the faculty work of two of the major arts institutions in the North State: CSU, Chico's Department of Art and Art History and Butte College's Art and Digital Art & Design Department.
This show is a tribute to the creativity, commitment and passion of two stellar arts faculties. More importantly, the exhibition is an affirmation of the two institutions dreams and aspirations for the students and communities that they serve. In a time of economic distress and cultural sadness, the Arts Faculties of Chico State and Butte College join with their students to declare their optimism for the creative spirit and intellectual endeavor that will transcend with both delicacy and strength the current temporal challenges of a beleaguered, but undefeated, California. Working and creating together, the colleagues presenting in this exhibition are forging a partnership to both transform arts expression and protect higher education in the North State.
A special reception featuring the artists and scholars will be held on Wednesday, March 9 in the Butte College Art Gallery from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This fundraising event supports the establishment of "Friends of the Gallery of Butte College," which will help to ensure arts education and the partnership between Chico State and Butte College flourishes into the future. Refreshments will be served along with a no-host bar.
The Butte College Art Gallery is located on the main Butte College campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, in the new ARTS Building (ARTS 106) closest to parking lot 3. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment. For further information, call 895-2877 or 895-2404.
