The Butte County Office of Education After School Program partnered with Butte College for its annual “Kids Challenge Day” which attracted over 400 after school program students on at the main campus.
Roughly 22 Butte County area schools were represented, along with parents/guardians. The students, 4th-8th graders, received a tour of the campus by Butte College staff members once they arrive by bus to the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive at 2 p.m.
Following the tour, students had a snack and listened to a local band before heading into the gym for a welcome from Butte County Superintendent, Don McNelis and Butte College Vice President, Les Jauron. Students then cheered on one representative from their school in an academic trivia tournament. Winning teams earned a plaque and college savings bond courtesy of Tri Counties Bank. The purpose of the event was to promote the benefits of attending college to elementary and junior high school students.
