The American Association of University Women (AAUW) of Oroville, Gridley, Chico and Paradise are coordinating "Career Trek" for 8th grade girls at Butte College, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, on Saturday, January 21. The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is a daylong event focused on educating students about career options in math and science. The program's goal is to encourage female students to become interested in math and science careers. Butte College President, Dr. Kimberly Perry, will provide a welcome address at 8:30 a.m. and discuss her career path and how she ended up becoming a college president. College resources such as financial aid, scholarships, and loans will also be discussed by Karen Micalizio, Dean of Special Programs.
Breakout sessions featuring young working women are offered. Following the morning program, a lunch will be offered in the cafeteria. In the afternoon, Butte College athletes will provide a tour of the campus. Butte College science and math instructors will offer a variety of lab demonstrations. There is a small registration fee includes a light breakfast and lunch. The event is open to all 8th grade girls and parents. Parents are encouraged to attend the day's event with their daughters.
