Location: Butte College Welding Area, 3536 Butte Campus Drive
The Butte College Welding program is set to graduate 47 students with certificates of completion during a commencement ceremony and barbecue on Friday, May 21.
The ceremony, starts at 6 p.m. in the college’s welding shop on the main campus, and will also be attended by all the Welding Program instructors and members of the advisory board.
“This class started out with a lot of raw talent. These students worked hard, building on that talent and improving their skills,” said Don Robinson, Welding Technology Department chair and instructor.
In addition to acknowledging their successful completion of the one-year, intensive Welding Technology program, which requires class attendance eight hours a day Monday through Friday and seven hours on Saturdays, many of these students will also receive equipment and tool achievement awards donated by community members and businesses.
While this ceremony marks a passage for these 47 students, they will all go on to take a hands-on test to earn their National Certification from the American Welding Society in June.
“That’s their last big step before employment as welders,” said Robinson. “Our program is one of the top three in the state and it’s nice to know our graduates are employed all over the world.”
