Butte College will present a regional conference designed to help students succeed in community college on Saturday, March 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the main campus, 3536 Butte Campus Drive, Oroville. Keynote speaker will be Joan Córdova, an adjunct mathematics instructor at Orange Coast College. She provides statewide professional development for community college math instructors and has developed a wide range of training activities as a Basic Skills Project Director.
The day’s conference sessions will include: Supporting Student Success: The Student-Athlete Success Program; Motivating Students to Complete Homework; Walking On the Title: Using Footnotes as a Pre-reading Strategy; Spanish Early Childhood Classes with Accompanying ESL Classes; Supplemental Instruction: Students Guiding Students to Success; Promoting Student Success in Nursing; Information Literacy: Research Skills for College Success; “I Have a Student Who…”: Successfully Partnering with Students with Disabilities; Integrating Basic Literacy Skills for Student Success; Using Graphic Organizers; Out with the Bad/In with the Good; Catch Me if You Can: Preventing Plagiarism Before it Begins and Stopping it Once it Starts; Campus Collaboration For Student Success And Retention: The Butte College “Food For Thought” Project; Helping Students Succeed in Science; Outside the Box: How a Learning Community Reached Beyond the Classroom; Creating More Student Success in Health Occupations Training!;The Critical Role of “Belonging to Campus Community” in Student Success; Meeting Them Where They’re at: How Understanding Social Class Contributes to Student Success; Interdepartmental Efforts to Improve Student Success in the Sciences; and Butte College LEAP Academy: Encouraging Student Success among Latino High School Students.
Registration includes an evening social on March 5, plus continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday, March 6. Cost is $25 for associate faculty and staff and $35 for full‐time faculty/administrators if received by Friday, February 19. After February 19 add $10 to registration fee.
