Butte College announces its nursing graduation and pinning ceremony on Thursday, December 16 from 4-5 p.m. at the Neighborhood Church, 2801 Notre Dame Blvd. in Chico. The college is set to graduate 47 registered nurses in a traditional “Pinning Ceremony.” The student speaker will be Stacy Grau.
“All of the nurses will be wearing their uniforms and receive a pin that’s school specific. Those pins represent a nurse’s rite of passage,” said Denise Adams, Butte College director of Health Occupations. “The ceremony really hails back to the history of nursing to honor these graduates who are stepping into this important caring profession. We are all really proud of them. They were a good class and are very excited about graduation and looking forward to working in their chosen field.”
The following awards will be presented:
National Student Nurses Association, Butte College Chapter, Leadership Award –awarded to the graduating student who demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to the Butte College Chapter of the National Student Nurses Association. Awarded to: Candace Rovella
Academic Excellence Award – awarded to the student who has achieved academic excellence, has been able to apply evidenced-based research to nursing practice and who had the highest overall grade point average (GPA) in nursing courses. Awarded to: Sherry Atkin
Clinical Excellence Award – awarded to the student who consistently demonstrated outstanding critical thinking and clinical reasoning as exemplified by outstanding ability in the clinical setting. Awarded to: Jennifer Mulliner
Nursing Excellence Award – is chosen by the graduating students and awarded to the student who has demonstrated excellence in scholarship, citizenship, compassion, and professional leadership. The recipient will read the updated “Florence Nightingale Pledge” during the lamp lighting at the pinning ceremony. Awarded to: Nathan Shye
