Butte College Student Health Clinic Remains Open During Summer Session

The Butte College Student Health Clinic announced it will remain open to serve students through the Summer Session, June 8 through July 30, Monday - Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The clinic is open to all Butte College students and is available for a wide range of medical or health-related appointments, including emergency medical treatment, specialized medical services, health counseling, crisis and personal therapy, and appropriate referrals to community resources. Services are provided to currently enrolled students taking a minimum of .5 units. Students are seen at no charge by appointment or, time permitting, on a walk-in basis.

"Many students don't realize we offer no-cost or low-cost treatments and tests, for a fraction of what it would cost anywhere else. Students who are registered in the summer or upcoming fall session can come in during the summer and there's no cost to be seen. Most medications are typically under $10 and a complete laboratory panel including blood count, cholesterol and liver function is only $11. Other labs are available at a 60-70 percent savings. Students are seeing a huge cost savings," said Renee Carini, Butte College Student Health Clinic Director.

Carini explained that the decision to extend the clinic's services through the summer was based on student need.

"We serve as the primary medical care center for Butte College students and we want to be here to serve them," said Carini. "The clinic can perform a number of lab tests including pregnancy, strep throat, blood sugar, urine analysis and anemia. The Butte College Student Health Clinic has become more of an urgent care facility. Our practitioners see medical and traumatic conditions and what we can't handle we quickly get transported to area emergency rooms. We have come a long way from just checking blood pressures."

In addition, those enrolled in the allied health and services programs including law enforcement, fire and fish and game require physicals, which can be very costly - up to $100 - with or without insurance. The clinic provides complete physicals for $10.

Carini noted one of the clinic's goals over the past two semesters has been to "serve more students and let them know where we are."

The health clinic is located on the Butte College main campus in Quad 3, Room 103. The phone number for appointments or more information is (530) 895-2441
