Butte College served as a remote viewing location for the 2008 Women's Conference hosted by California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver. Students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community viewed a live satellite feed of The Women's Conference from the Long Beach Convention Center on October 22 in the Center for Excellence, inside the Butte College Library from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. After each of the panel discussions, moderator Annie Rafferty, Director of the Training Place and Economic Development, solicited input and feedback from students and the responses were overwhelmingly positive.

The Women's Conference is held annually in Long Beach, and was sold out within three hours to more than 14,000 attendees.

"The Women's Conference brought some of the world's visionaries together to discuss empowerment and change. We're pleased we were able to participate in the conference from Butte College to engage our campus in global issues," said Diana Van Der Ploeg, Butte College president. "This was a unique opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and the community to hear from prominent global leaders."
