The Butte College Library is named after Frederick S. Montgomery, a founding member of the Butte College Board of Trustees. The Library has a collection of approximately 70,000 print books, 28,000 eBooks, and 29,000 print and electronic periodicals. Seventy-three computer workstations on the second floor provide access to 65 online databases with millions of full-text journal, magazine, and newspaper articles.
We also provide reference services, reserve books, a video collection and test proctoring at the Chico Center Library, CHC Room 219.
Our librarians teach two Library & Information Science courses, LIS 11 and LIS 126, scheduled bibliographic instruction sessions at Main, Chico & Glenn Center, orientations, and workshops. All library instruction takes place in a lab which has computers for hands-on experience.
The Library catalog is available online, and all the research databases are accessible to current students and staff from off-campus via the Internet. Reference assistance is available 24 hours a day though our virtual chat service.
Many of our workshops are available online, along with handouts and search guides. Many of our other services are also available online.
Renovations on the library building were completed in Summer of 2007.
The three-story Main Campus Library has an increase of about 17,000 square feet over the original space. The library has a total of 323 seats including 132 study carrels, 73 computer workstations, 5 group study rooms, 42 lounge seats, and 32 table seats.
The 73 library computers have Internet access, Microsoft & Open Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access DB. Inspiration software for people with different learning styles is installed on some Main Campus Library computers. Computers with assistive technology are also available for people living with disabilities at both libraries. The Library is a wireless hotspot, so bring your laptop!
