Connie Petlack has earned both a B.A. in Business Education and an M.A. in Business. She also has done additional graduate work in the areas of computers, curriculum development, and accounting. Connie has taught at the high school, adult school, ROP, and community college levels. Connie is an instructor for the Business Computer Information Systems Department, and she serves on a number of campus committees.
In addition to her teaching experience, Connie has been an educational consultant with the McGraw-Hill Book Company, the State of California, and the County of Los Angeles. She has also published several practice sets, text materials, and numerous articles for professional magazines. Connie is the mother of six and also runs an import/wholesale business for RV appliance parts.
She believes the BCIS Department has created a learning atmosphere that is interesting, challenging, appropriate, and empowering for students. Sandra Sloan, Ph.D. has been a full-time instructor in the BCIS Department since August 2008. Sandra has earned a Ph.D., MPA, BS, and AAS. Additionally, she has a Microsoft Office 2010 Master Certification and is responsible for administering the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification exams for BCIS students. Dorene Thompson has been a full-time instructor in the BCIS Department since August 2002. She has an M.A. in Organizational Management, a B.A. in English, an Adult/Vocational Education teaching credential, and two Online Teaching certifications.
Dorene is dedicated to teaching and serving the campus. She designed and taught the first online course for the BCIS Department and serves as the BCIS Academic Awards Coordinator as well as the Coordinator/Facilitator of the BCIS Business Office Careers Advisory Committee. She has completed the two-year Butte College Leadership Development Institute and has been a member of and officer for various campus committees: Academic Technology Committee, Digital Literacy Committee, Center for Academic Success Committee, Curriculum Committee, Accreditation Committees, Early Alert Committee (Chair), Butte College Student Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (Club Advisor), Butte College Education Association (Career-Technical Representative and Membership Chair), and the Butte College Chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (Membership Chair). Dorene also enjoys performing community service.
Dorene says that her role as an instructor is to "help students obtain the knowledge and skills they need to transfer to a university and obtain jobs so that they create the successful, happy lives they want for themselves and their families."
