Sandi Escobar - Generic Memory

Artist Sandi Escobar
Generic Memory

The Butte College Art Gallery is pleased to announce Generic Memory, an exhibition of artwork by local artist Sandi Escobar. The exhibit will be on display from March 2 – March 27, 2014 in the Butte College Art Gallery. A reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, March 13 from 4:30 -6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the event is free and open to the public.

The works in Generic Memory are inspired and informed by Escobar's experience growing up as the daughter of Mexican immigrant parents in the culturally diverse urban sprawl of Los Angeles. Escobar's work draws from personal and familial historical sources, told, written, and imagined. Her art is a collection of artifacts from the melding of cultures that have evolved into a present day experience.

Sandi Escobar received her M.A. in Ceramics from California State University, Northridge in 2004 and her Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Chico. Her recent exhibitions include Fish out of Water at the Liberty Arts Gallery, Yreka, Ca. and Write Away: Postcards with a Purpose at 1078 Gallery in Chico, Ca. In 2010 Escobar received the MFA Student of the Year Award from California State University, Chico.
