CAS Tutoring
Free tutoring is available on a drop-in basis. No appointment is necessary.

Why do I need to enroll in EDUC 310?
In order to be able to use all CAS services, it is necessary to enroll each semester in EDUC 310, a free, non-graded, no-credit course. This only takes a minute or two and is necessary for continuing CAS funding. For more information or to get assistance with enrolling, please visit the front desk of CAS in the LRC on main campus or in CHC 230 at the Chico Center.

How do I find a tutor?
Schedules for drop-in tutors on main campus are posted outside the CAS entrance (on the main floor of the Learning Resource Center). For tutoring at the Chico Center, schedules are posted in CHC 230 (CAS at the Chico Center).

If the posted schedule indicates a tutor in your selected subject is available, check in at the front desk and then look for a table with a sign (table tent) indicating the subject you are seeking. At the table you will see the tutor, who can be identified with a name tag. Just sit down at the table and let the tutor know you would like some help. Please be sure to bring your assignment with you so the tutor can help you more effectively. You may stay as long as the tutor is available, but your time may be shared with other students who are also being helped by that tutor.

Why do I need to check in?
At the front desk of CAS, you will be asked to check in by giving your ID number, name, and the reason you are coming to CAS. Check-in is required in order to track hours of student use, which is the basis of CAS funding. You will also be asked to check out when you leave in order for us to have an accurate count of the number of hours students use our services. If you do not know your Butte ID number, check your ID card or class schedule printout. If it is your first visit to CAS, you will be asked to enroll in EDUC 310 and complete a request for services form. (See above.) Your cooperation with checking in and checking out is very much appreciated!

How will the CAS Tutors help me?
CAS Tutors are trained to encourage your independence as a student. They will not do your work for you, but they will help you with strategies and resources so that you can improve your own ability to master the material, learn more effectively, and study independently.

When and how often can I use CAS services?
Students are always welcome in CAS, and you may come as often as you like. CAS on the main campus is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Chico Center CAS during the fall 2015 semester is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Wednesday evenings, 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Access to CAS is free to all currently enrolled Butte College students. You may come in to CAS to work with a tutor, attend a workshop, or just to study. The computer labs and group study rooms are also available for student use.
